Guides & troubleshooting

Install failures, overseas playback limits, VIP renewal traps, antivirus warnings, and the large Android permission surface — step by step.

Guide 01

Install the Android APK

For KuGou Music 20.7.7 (164.91 MB). Follow the steps in order.

  1. Open the download page, fetch the Android APK, and verify SHA256 before you continue.
  2. On the device, allow installs from the browser or file manager you used (Settings → Apps → special access / install unknown apps).
  3. Open the APK from Notifications or Files and tap Install.
  4. If Android blocks the package, confirm you are on Android 5.1+ and that the APK architecture matches arm64-v8a for the listed build.
  5. Launch KuGou Music, sign in if you use cloud library features, and grant only the permissions you need for playback.

Guide 02

Version conflict / signature mismatch

Uptodown’s install FAQ: if another store already installed KuGou with a different signature, the new APK will fail until you remove the old app.

  1. Back up offline downloads you still need (export or copy if your build allows).
  2. Uninstall the existing KuGou Music package.
  3. Reboot once if the installer still sees the old signature.
  4. Install the hashed 20.7.7 APK again.

Guide 03

Not enough storage

The APK is 164.91 MB. During install Android keeps the installer and expands it. Aim for roughly twice that free space (~330 MB) plus room for music cache.

  1. Clear unused apps or large videos.
  2. Delete failed partial APKs in Download.
  3. Retry the download on a stable connection to avoid a corrupt package.

Guide 04

Online play fails outside mainland China

Public overseas reviews describe streaming and fresh downloads stopping outside mainland China while older offline files still play. That is licensing behavior, not a broken APK.

  1. Confirm the app opens and local/offline titles still play. If yes, the install is fine.
  2. Check whether the account region and catalog rights still include the tracks you want.
  3. Do not assume a “fix APK” will bypass rights. Replacing the binary will not create a new license.
  4. If you only need files you already own locally, keep using offline mode and skip online shelves.

Guide 05

App installs but misbehaves

Uptodown suggests clearing cache/data when local state is corrupt. Back up anything important first.

  1. Open Android Settings → Apps → KuGou Music.
  2. Tap Storage → Clear cache. Retest playback and landscape neon mode.
  3. If still broken, Clear data (this signs you out and drops local app state).
  4. Confirm Android version and arm64 compatibility; otherwise try an older 20.6.x build from a trusted archive only after hashing.

Guide 06

Automatic VIP renewal checklist

Chinese press coverage in 2026 described high complaint volume around continuous subscriptions: reminders living inside the app, and Apple users needing to cancel in App Store subscriptions even after tapping cancel inside KuGou.

  1. Before you uninstall, open membership settings and turn off auto-renew if the switch exists.
  2. On iPhone, also open App Store → account → Subscriptions and cancel there.
  3. On Android billing (WeChat / Alipay / store billing), revoke the recurring agreement in that payment channel.
  4. Keep the SMS or receipt until the next billing date passes.

Guide 07

Antivirus or Play Protect warning

Sideloaded media apps with broad permission lists often trip heuristics. Follow evidence, not fear.

  1. Hash the file; compare to the published SHA256.
  2. Read the alert text: generic “uncommon app” differs from a named trojan detection.
  3. If the hash matches and you trust the source, you may proceed; if it does not match, delete the file.
  4. Document the scanner name and verdict if you need to escalate to IT policy owners.

Guide 08

Handling 100+ permission requests

Uptodown lists 107 permissions for the Android build. Store listings show storage, microphone (KTV), Bluetooth, notifications, and more. You do not have to accept every optional runtime prompt on modern Android.

  1. Deny microphone until you open KTV or AI帮你唱.
  2. Deny contacts / phone state if you only stream music.
  3. Allow notifications only if you want lyric or download alerts.
  4. Revisit Settings → Apps → KuGou Music → Permissions after the first week and revoke unused grants.

Guide 09

Best practices

Verify before update

Keep a note of the SHA256 for the build you trust. When 20.7.x advances, re-check the sheet.

Wi‑Fi for first cache

Catalog downloads and the 164.91 MB client are heavy on mobile data. Prefetch on Wi‑Fi.
